Organizing Toolkit to Build Feb 23 Day of Actions Just Released U.S. War Threats Continue to Grow, Numerous Cities Plan Solidarity Mobilizations for February 23 *Please share widely across lists, networks, and on social media* The corporate media is filled with increasingly outrageous and dangerous fabrications about the situation in Venezuela and the democratically-elected government led by President Nicolas Maduro. New and expansive sanctions imposed by the U.S. will have a devastating impact on the lives of Venezuelan people. Sanctions are always deadly, and are themselves an act of war. During the Clinton administration, sanctions in Iraq were responsible for the death of more than 500,000 children. Wall Street and the Pentagon will continue their onslaught on Venezuela until they get what they want - a subjugated Venezuela and access to the largest oil reserves on Earth.
International actions set for the weekend of February 23 come at a critical moment. Powerful mobilizations are needed globally to express solidarity with the people of Venezuela and to roundly denounce and challenge the U.S. and its allies by saying: No sanctions, no coup, no U.S. war!
February 23 is the one- month anniversary of the latest U.S.-backed coup attempt, so we have a little less than two weeks to organize a global response. Though many successful actions have been held since the coup attempt on January 23rd, international coordination is the next essential step for us to most effectively and powerfully defend Venezuela. Please submit details of your action here.
Wear RED on February 23! In solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, whose supporters often wear red to their mobilizations, we also ask that supporters of a truly sovereign Venezuela wear red on February 23rd. Like the Gilets Jaunes in Paris, this will strengthen our message of solidarity. Many cities have already announced plans for actions on February 23 - find an action near you or plan one for your area today.
The No War on Venezuela statement has been translated into more than a dozen languages. It has been signed by over 2,000 people and 120+ organizations from countries around the globe. Please continue to circulate this pledge so it can gather even more momentum.
An Organizing Toolkit is now available online to assist with the planning and preparation of February 23 actions, which includes:
- An informational fact sheet in English & Spanish
- A half and full page poster with room to add local info
- Chant sheets for demonstrations
- Social media share graphics and sticker templates
More materials will be added to the toolkit in the coming days - be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
If you'd like assistance in planning an action in your community, please feel free to reply to this email or contact us at info@nowaronvenezuela.org. We will be happy to reach out personally and advise on how best to build solidarity with Venezuela in your area.
