Orthodox Jews to Protest Zionist Denouncers of Congresswoman Omar
Anti-Zionist Orthodox Jews of New York, organized by Neturei Karta International, will be present this Monday, May 20 in Times Square, 711 7th Ave, New York City, to protest against pro-Israeli activists who are holding a rally and launching a billboard against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
“When Congresswoman Ilhan Omar first began speaking out against the pro-Israel lobby and the tactics it uses to influence politicians, she was immediately attacked by the Zionists, who claimed she was invoking an anti-Semitic stereotype,” said spokesman Rabbi Dovid Feldman.
“However, the truth is that anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism, and criticizing the State of Israel or its supporters in America, is not anti-Semitic. In fact, Jews worldwide, including very large numbers in the United States, are against the existence of the State of Israel and its criminal actions.”
Rabbi Feldman explained, “The Torah forbids Jews from having their own sovereignty before the coming of the messiah, and the Torah forbids us, as everybody knows, from killing, stealing or harming any other people in any manner. On the contrary, we have to show kindness and compassion, certainly to the Muslim and Arab nations who have provided a safe haven for us throughout these past centuries.
“Labeling people as anti-Semites cannot justify occupation and brutality. Ironically and tragically, Orthodox Jews like ourselves are among those who suffer together with the Palestinians under the Israeli regime.
“Therefore, what Congresswoman Omar said is not anti-Semitic in any way. We at Neturei Karta International appreciate her speaking up for justice. Together with many other Americans, we have been waiting a long time for politicians who will not be intimidated by the Zionists.
“On the other hand, the groups paying for this billboard are contributing to anti-Semitism by directly confirming the anti-Semites’ claims that Jews seek to control American politics for the benefit of a foreign state.
“Judaism requires Jews to seek the welfare of the country where they live. Insulting and denouncing our politicians is contrary to Jewish law and centuries of Jewish tradition. Falsely accusing people as anti-Semitic, in addition it injustice, is itself a cause for anti-Semitism.
“We declare that all the provocations and attacks against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and other politicians do not represent the voice and opinion of American Jews and are strongly condemned by our Jewish communities here in New York and throughout the United States.
“May the Almighty help us and may the voice of our protest, representing the larger Jewish Orthodox community, serve to mitigate some of the damage these irresponsible groups are causing.”
